Quick answer
Mulch is a layer of organic material spread over garden beds to suppress weeds, hold moisture and feed the soil as it breaks down. We supply seven bulk mulches, from fine Tea Tree and Forest Mulch to chunky Hardwood Chip and Hoop Bark. Spread it 75–100mm deep: one cubic metre covers about 10–13 square metres.

Good for
Spread mulch 75–100mm deep. Thinner layers let weeds through and dry out quickly; much thicker layers can stop water reaching the soil. Keep mulch a hand-width away from plant stems and tree trunks.
Chunky mulches such as Hardwood Chip, Hoop Bark and Cypress Mulch break down more slowly than fine mulches such as Tea Tree or Forest Mulch Double Grind, so they need topping up less often.
One cubic metre covers about 10 m² at 100mm deep or 13 m² at 75mm. Measure the bed area in square metres and divide by 10 for a 100mm layer. See our guide to choosing the right mulch.
